INVOLVED IN SPACE ACTIVITIES
DIFFERENT ENTITIES AND ACTORS ARE INVOLVED IN SPACE ACTIVITIES IN LUXEMBOURG.
OFFICIAL BODIES IN CHARGE OF RELATIONS WITH ESA
The Ministry for Higher Education and Research is responsible for all financial, political and programming aspects related to ESA activities. The Ministry, on the basis of industry and public research capabilities and objectives, opens programme lines and supports the set-up of projects.
Luxinnovation, the National Agency for Innovation and Research, is the Luxembourg Point of Contact for ESA matters. As such, Luxinnovation provides companies and research organisations with information on how ESA operates and the various approaches to be adopted according to the different programmes of ESA. Luxinnovation also offers advice and support to entrepreneurs and researchers willing to work with ESA.
PRIVATE AND PUBLIC ACTORS IN THE SPACE SECTOR
Around 20 companies and 3 public research organisations in Luxembourg are involved in space activities for a total headcount of about 450 people.
The Luxembourg Space Cluster, managed by Luxinnovation, is a network that supports the private and public actors of the space technologies sector in Luxembourg to create and develop synergies and new partnerships at the national and international level through collaborative Research, Development and Innovation projects.
The setting up of GLAE (Groupement Luxembourgeois de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace) followed the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg’s adhesion to ESA. The objective is to provide a permanent link between its members, advising them and defending their shared professional, economic and social interests at a national and international level. GLAE is a partner of the government for addressing all questions in relation to initiatives taken by the authorities in the frame of ESA programmes and the establishment of a space policy in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Both entities, the Luxembourg Space Cluster and GLAE, operate in total synergy and complementarity.
